　　1. What types of music do you like to listen to? [Why?]

　　参考 答案 1 I don’ t really categorise the music I listen to – I listen to music from many different genres, depending on my mood or the book I’ m currently reading or whatever. For example, I like to listen to Ambient electronica or Classical while working, but enjoy early country music when walking somewhere. I don’ t really understand people who only listen to one genre and disparage anyone else’ s tastes. Why deny yourself experience?

　　参考 答案 2 I don’ t really listen to music – I suppose if I listen to any kind it would be pop music, but I only listen to that when it’ s on. I’ m not really interested in music very much.

　　2. At what times of day do you like to listen to music? [Why?]

　　参考 答案 1 There’ s no particular time of day I listen to music, really. I suppose the morning and late afternoon, when I’ m going to and returning home from work is the most consistent time period. Since I take the subway I almost always listen to music to relieve the boredom.

　　参考 答案 2 I mostly listen to music when I have nothing else to do, which isn’ t very often as I’ m usually studying. I sometimes listen to music when I’ m hanging out with my friends, but that’ s only because they want to listen to it.

　　3. Did you learn to play a musical instrument when you were a child? [Why/ Why not?]

　　参考 答案 1 I learned to play the recorder at school, along with everyone else, and picked up the guitar and bass when I was a teenager. No reason for it other than wanting to. I didn’ t self- analyse much as a child, so it’ s hard for me to form a reason why.

　　参考 答案 2 I never learned to play an instrument because my parents didn’ t think it would be useful for me to learn one. I kind of disagree with them though, because I’ ve heard it’ s easier to get into a good university if you play an instrument.

　　4. Do you think all children should learn to play a musical instrument? [Why/ Why not?]

　　参考 答案1 I think children should learn to play an instrument because music, in the end, is another language. Being able to play something and appreciate the music of others is a fine form of expression and allows you to understand the human condition just a little more deeply, which is perhaps more useful to a child than learning the exact date a particular king died or somesuch.

　　参考 答案 2 I think children should learn to play an instrument because, as I said, it’ s easier to get into a good university if you play one.However, playing music is generally a waste of time as you can’ t make much money from doing it, so it’ s not too important that children learn to play music.
