话题背景

英国作为一个拥有几千年历史、文化底蕴深厚、世界众多的国家，成为了很多中国留学生的选择留学国家。

英国的很多地标性建筑也广为人知，伦敦塔桥、大本钟、白金汉宫、伦敦眼……这些都是很多同学心之向往想去瞧一瞧的地方。

那么，这些地方用英文该如何描述呢？今天，我们就结合"Describe a foreign country you want to know more about."这道雅思口语话题，来学习如何描述英国这个国家。

I have been to many foreign countries and one of the countries that I want to explore more about is the UK. The very first time I visited this country was after my college graduation and my mom paid for a long trip to the UKin recognition of my 4-years efforts. To travel in a such great country full of historical sites and cultural treasures.

Just like every tourist, I visited a lot of households and fascinating tourist attractions like Big Ben, the London Eye etc. as well as took a good look atavant-garde arts and even tried the infamous English cuisine like fish and chips. They were not bad actually.

During the whole trip, what impressed me the most was the cruise trip along the Thames River, which is a quintessential London experience because you can appreciate this exciting and pulsating metropolis from a different perspective. The banks of the River Thames are dotted with famous landmarks which you can admire at the same time while on the boat.

If there's a possibility, next time when I visit this country again, I hope I could integrate more to meet more of its local people and culture.

在口语考试中，我们需要尽可能准确地使用广泛的词汇和语法结构，这可能会让我们感到紧张和不知所措。这时，焦虑的情绪就会使我们保持流畅度和连贯性变得更加困难。所以首先，我们不能慌，要告诉自己：“I can do this.”

要知道，雅思考试的设置以及考官的工作都不是为了要难为你，口语测试的形式也有意在帮助考生放松心态，以一些与家庭或考生熟悉话题作为开场。我们有时会看到有些考官会比较严肃或者刻板，不要紧张，不是因为你表现得不好，只是因为他们需要严格把控时间，又要认真地去评估你的语言能力，其实他们工作也挺紧张的。

在考试的Part 3，讨论较抽象的主题时，考官依然采用的是对话的形式。我们要尽量放轻松，与考官对话，产生交流感是非常重要的。

直接回答问题

在考试开始时，我们只需提供考官要求的信息即可，不必过多地扩展答案。

那什么时候开始需要我们做展开呢？当聊到有关家庭，工作，学校生活等问题时。这时我们展开答案需要注重的是答案与问题的相关性，不要天南海北地把所有能联想到的东西都说出来，从而导致跑题偏题的情况发生。

那么我们应该如何展开答案呢？举个例子：

OPENING (optional)	Hmm. It’s hard to say because I like all seasons but…
ANSWER	I would say summer would have to be my all-time favorite.
REASON /EXAMPLE	You know, the summer is just great. There are so many things to do outside, you can be near the water, yes…if it’s too hot, it’s better to hang out at the beach. I really love the beach and watersports like surfing…
CLOSE	so, yeah, if I had to choose one, it would be summer for sure.

给出直接答案后，我们可以从原因和举例的角度去是当展开，然后为了保证语段的完整性，可以适当加入一个总结性语句作为结尾。

如果我们遇到了一个比较困难的问题，不知道怎么回答，怎么办呢？

当然是不要放弃，尽力去回答这个问题！

RATHER THAN…	TRY THIS:
I don’t know… I can’t answer that question.	Hmm, that’s a tricky question. Let me think about that… yeah, I guess I would say that…

利用短语和填充词给自己争取一些思考的时间，顺便展示一把遇到难题仍可以进行持续的语言输出的能力。

养成自己回答“why”的习惯spontaneousiy reply to "why"

有过雅思考试经验的同学们可能已经注意到，当你回答了一个简短的答案时，考官会经常以“Why？”来追问你。这是因为考官需要得到许多的语言信息，以便准确地评估考生的语言能力。但是，如果考官感觉他需要不停追问“Why”，跟挤牙膏似的挤你的答案，这时候你可能就要因为缺乏流利程度而失分了。

根据雅思口语考试的评分标准，要达到第6分，考生需要具备“能够长时间输出语言的意愿和能力”，甚至5分也要求考生“通常情况下保持言语流畅度”，因此，简短地说出一两个单词的答案是行不通的，无法展示我们的语言能力。

举个例子：

OKAY	BETTER
Examiner: What’s your favorite color? Candidate: Blue, I think. Examiner: Why? Candidate: I don’t know. I just like it.	Examiner: What’s your favorite color? Candidate: Blue, I think. Yeah, blue, because it reminds me of the ocean and the sky. I feel calm when I see the color blue. I also like to wear blue – it looks good on me.

提前准备

在我们熟悉了雅思口语考试的题型后，就可以提前计划，考虑在考试过程中可能出现的各种情况，以及相应的应对方式。例如，在part 1询问到有关家庭，工作或学生生活等简单问题时，我们要怎样展现一下自己的语言能力呢？这时候我们就可以用现在完成时句式使我们的简单句表达更加地道。

home – I’ve lived in my apartment for two years.

family – We’ve been married for only six months.

work – I’ve been an engineer for fourteen years.

student life – I’ve been studying English for five years.

在之后的general question中，我们可能会被随机询问有关鱼，野餐或树木等问题，如果一瞬间不确定要说什么，可以使用“Hmm, that’s an interesting question…”或者“I’ve never thought about it before…”之类的话语，为自己争取一些思考时间。

那么在其他不同情况下，我们还可以准备一些什么样的短语或者搭配呢？

to give your opinion to show another side of an issue	In my opinion,… I believe (that)… To me,… However,… On the other hand,… Having said that,…
if you didn’t hear/understand something	Excuse me, could you say that again? Can you repeat the question, please?
if you don’t understand a term/word	What does . . . mean? I’m sorry. I’m not familiar with …. What does it mean?
facing a difficult / strange question	Buy yourself some time with these phrases: Hmm, that’s an interesting question… I’d say… Hmm, I haven’t thought about it before, but I would say… I can’t say for sure, but…
