大家对that 应该并不陌生，我们先用一个图表回顾一下它的基本用法。

接下来我们看一下雅思中一些that 的错误示范，避免踩雷吧。

错误示范一

The consumption of chicken, on the other hand, showed an upward trend, overtaking lamb in 1980 and beef in 1989.

解析：本句主语为the consumption of chicken， 交点的表达为overtaking lamb ..and beef, 前后都比较对象不一致。 

修改：The consumption of chicken, on the other hand, showed an upward trend, overtaking that of lamb in 1980 and that ofbeef in 1989.

错误示范二 

Watching TV was most popular, with more than 90 percent of children and 85% teenagers doing this activity.That high percentages contrasted sharply with the low ones in terms of taking art classes, ranging from 40% to 60%.

解析：本段第二句使用了that 做指代，避免重复，但是that 后面的名词为复数形式，前后形式不一致。 

修改：.......Those high percentages contrasted sharply with the low ones in terms of taking art classes, ranging from 40% to 60%.

错误示范三

a. People used to live in houses with huge outdoor areas like a garden or backyard, but this is no longer possible for many people as a result of the relentless development of urbanization. I believe that is a positive trend.

解析：本段第二句表达个人观点，that 在本句中含义不清，引发歧义：i believe that ( 宾语从句引导词） vs that is a positive trend（ 从句主语）.

修改：.... I believe that this change/ it is a positive trend.

b. One reason for this trend is many people think it is more relaxing to spend their off-work time with their friends in such places as tearooms or cafes.

解析：本句为表语从句，从句缺少连接词that, 引发歧义：one reason for this trend is many people vs many people think.

修改：One reason for this trend is that many people think it is more relaxing to spend their off-work time with their friends in such places as tearooms or cafes.

错误示范四

Throwing away breeds over-consumption, that in turn will cause many problems for us.

解析：本句为定语从句， that 不能放在逗号之后，引导非限定性定语从句

修改：Throwing away breeds over-consumption, which in turn will cause many problems for us.

总结
