Which form of the following choices of final examination do you prefer the most?

1. Research paper

2. Oral exam

3. Paper examination

For me personally, I would choose to have an oral exam instead of the other two. Because firstly, I really enjoy having conversations with people in real life. An oral exam will give me exactly what I want- exchange ideas between me and the class, I’s sure there will be sparkles and chemical effects. And secondly, I never consider myself as a book-person, except for books on social studies, interior design or humanities. Sadly, I am in business major, which means that I am destined to hate reading books or doing researches on those.

TASK 2

A $5000 scholarship reward should be given to students with high academic performance or students who need financial aids?

If I were to choose, this $5000 reward should be given to those who study very hard and have high academic performance. A scholarship, the name is obvious itself, is established as an incentive to encourage competition. Top students work hard day and night, sitting in the library through the night, hoping to be given this prize. If the rule of accepting the scholarship is changed, this money is given to the poor instead of to the best, then all the other hard-working students are not playing in a fair game. This would create a huge let-down for all the students.

Where would you like to study in your university?

I think studying in my own dormitory would be the most perfect idea. Firstly, I like to tidy up things around before I can get my hand on school work. Mopping the desk, vacuuming floor and doing dishes can really help me settle nervousness. Because I have anxiety issues during midterm and final seasons, some domestic work will release some of that feelings. Secondly, staying in my own place is cheerful, I get to wear all the comfy clothes that I can think of like pajamas, and stand on the floor with bare feet.

TASK 2

Do you agree or disagree with the statement that children could not learn any valuable thing from video games?

I think this is a false statement from the beginning, anyone can learn at least something from anywhere, that is to say I disagree with the statement provided. I liked to play online games when I was in high school and university, playing games like League of Legends or World of Warcraft gained me some knowledge cause back then I learned many new English words like loot or conjurer, I wouldn’t have heard of them had I never played games. What’s more is that some games need group work, kids have the chance to cope with others, communicate in a friendly platform to ace the game.

I think there are at least two measures individuals can take to reduce air pollution. Firstly, we can hire public transportations instead of private vehicles. Increasing cars has brought serious air pollution and traffic jams in cities, especially in rush hours. If we walk or take public transportations, such as subways, buses, and carpooling with others, we can reduce the car exhausts. Secondly, we can plant more trees. Plants not only absorb greenhouse gases to make up for the car emissions, but also remove harmful chemicals from the soil to benefit the environment.

Which teacher’s course would you like to take and explain why?

Use specific reasons and examples to explain your choice. A teacher who is humorous in class or a teacher who is serious in class.

Having a humorous teacher is so much better than looking at a teacher with poker face. For example, Michael was my primary school teacher, he was so funny that each time he’s in the classroom we’d laugh. He told jokes related to study materials, which made it easier for us to remember what we learned. On the contrary, Mr. Chen was a rather serious man and he taught us math. I mean, math itself was already boring enough, his attitude towards us made things worse, I didn’t even have the courage to ask him questions.

Nowadays, instead of communicating face to face, people communicate through a video chat app more often. Talk about one advantage and on disadvantage of communicating through a video chat app.

One huge advantage of communicating through video chat app is that I get to see faces of my beloved ones. I hate talking to people without seeing their faces, because that way I cannot read their faces to detect their true feelings, video chat gives me the ability to read expressions long distance. However, I fell down into a well the other day when I was facetiming with my mom, because I wasn’t paying attention to the road, so I didn’t see a hole without lid in front of me.

TASK 2

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A school should not require students to do experiments but show students the videos of experiments. Why? Include reasons and examples to support your response.

I think this decision is quite unreasonable. Because practice makes perfect. If students don’t have the chance to get their hands on the experiments, they wouldn’t remember what they learned even if they have experiment manuals. Also, it helps to improve relationship between classmates. Teachers may divide students into different study groups, and each member in the group is assigned with different objectives, and they shall work together to reach their goal. Showing students with videos will not help at all, they are just wasting their time sitting in the classroom, looking at something they will never be able to try in actual life.

Which one of the following lessons will you take?

For me, I’ll choose to learn some basic instruments like guitar or piano. When I was 7, my mother told me that playing an instrument would help me to increase my memory skills, so I listened to her and started to learn playing piano. After that, I got an A in my language class because I could clearly memorize those vocabulary and gramma. Besides, I also think playing an instrument is a good way to build up confidence. Learning to play an instrument takes a lot of time, patience and practice. During music lessons, a teacher will set short term goals. As I reach my goals, I will feel a sense of achievement and pride. I think this would really help me to be more confident.

When facing difficulties, some people choose to keep their sense of humor, but others may take problems seriously. Which do you prefer and why?

Well, I definitely prefer to choose to keep the sense of humor. First of all, when facing difficulties，feeling stressed out and anxious is quite normal. Humor helps people play with ideas, lower people’s internal critic, and see things in the positive light. on top of that, research shows that people are more inspired when they are relaxed. So，if we want to solve the difficulty or problem as effectively as we can, we need to keep relaxed and refreshed. Telling a joke can be a perfect cure for both us and people around you. Plus, you may get extra help from other people.
