For this topic, I want to talk about motherwort or Yimucao in Chinese, a small plant that holds a significant place in traditional Chinese medicine. Motherwort is a beautiful flowering plant. When it blooms, the flowers display captivating mauve to plum colours.

I didn’t know about this plant until one day at my parents' clinic, I stumbled upon a tag saying Yimucao. It seemed funny because the Chinese characters Yimucao could be translated as the grass that benefits moms. Intrigued by its name, I asked my mom about its uses. She explained to me its exceptional benefits for women. So, motherwort is renowned for its effectiveness in alleviating menstrual discomfort and can be brewed into a healing tea to ease various symptoms.

Well, at first, I wasn’t that convinced. However, my initial scepticism about the capabilities of this unassuming plant was erased two months later. I experienced intense menstrual pain.
