在hometown的话题中常问到：

In what ways can you improve your hometown?

Is there anything you dislike about your hometown?

Are there any changes you would like to make in your hometown?

……

绝大多数的小伙伴想到的则是traffic jams和pollution这两类问题。

不是说回答这两点不ok，只是你想想，每次考官问这个问题，他得到的回答几乎都是一个模子刻出来的，对他来讲，这个答案缺少了一些吸引力。对于在流利度和语法两个方面都没有什么问题的小伙伴，建议大家可以适当准备一些较新、较有深度的素材。

1 Square Dancing

你有过这样的经历吗：在小区外的小广场，每当夜幕降临之时，你便会听到广场舞的音乐震耳欲聋。大妈大爷们正享受着他们的舞蹈时光，而你，却因超大的音乐声无法静心做自己的事。当季Part 3有关噪音的题目，大家也可以利用这点进行回答。

Well, a real nuisance in my neighbourhood is square dancing. I guess most residents have had the same suffering. Every day when the night falls, those retired grannies blast out music and enjoy themselves as dancing queens. I understand that this is a source of relaxation for them, but for others living in the same neighbourhood, like me, their loud music is such a noisy disturbance so I really hope this could be dealt with.

2 Overwhelmingly high housing price

尚未工作的小伙伴可能还无法切身体会到许多城市的房价是多么得“惊悚”、“恐怖”；已工作的小伙伴应该能更好地感受到工资的涨幅似乎永远赶不上房价的飙升。在中国的许多城市，对于上班族来讲，购置房屋不仅需要全家的扶持，还得花上大半辈子偿还巨额的贷款与利息。如若房价能让人更易承担一些，想必许多人的生活压力会减少不少。

Like other major cities, the housing price is overwhelmingly high in my hometown, which means, anyone who wishes to purchase an apartment, has to seek financial support from his family, usually his parents, and he has to pay back an enormous bank loan and interest. Therefore, if the soaring prices could be controlled to some degree, the houses here would be more affordable for average people/office workers/white-collar workers, and they would be under much less pressure.

3 Poor waste disposal habit

以前，在国内，很多地方都不太有“垃圾分类”的规定，居民在这方面的意识也比较薄弱。但如今，随着垃圾给城市环境造成巨大的压力，许多城市先后推出了垃圾分类的政策和规定。如果大家能按要求，有意识做好垃圾分类，对于之后更有效的垃圾处理工作也是做了些许的贡献。

Well, I'd say that poor waste disposal habits in my city used to be a big issue. In the past, citizens in my hometown had little knowledge of how to classify waste, and they would not think twice before dumping garbage altogether. It's even more true that even though there were dustbins labelled as "recyclable" and "non-recyclable", people just ignored the label and threw all trash in one bin. However, today, our government has issued a series of rules to regulate this so I guess the waste disposal in my city would be more efficient and effective as our residents gradually know how to classify garbage.

4 Others

除了以上问题外，其实还有许多可以谈论的点：

比如很多时候人们不愿意排队（queue up），喜欢插队(cut in line; jump a queue)；有些人会在公交车、地铁（这些公共场合public places) 公放音乐(sodcast)；许多商住楼下的商贩们用扬声器叫卖（blare out their hawking with loudspeakers) 吸引顾客，但这种行为严重影响了楼上居民的休息；大城市里社区邻里关系较为生疏，社区邻里感薄弱（little sense of close-knit community); 有些地方的基建(infrastructure)不够完善，如排水系统（drainage system）欠佳，每逢大雨都无法有效排水（fail to drain the water effectively)，造成积水(cause runoff), 等等。

其实并不是只有天天上头条的事情才是我们所在城市的问题。
