Last New Year’s Eve, for example, the MixC organised a countdown gala at the central square outside the complex. My friends and I happened to know about the event from social media. You know, there were hordes of posts about this upcoming celebration. It seemed so much fun, so my friends and I decided to go.

Everyone was trying to jostle for a better position, which made me squashed like sardines. I want to talk about a time when I went to a countdown party with my friends.

So, some days before last New Year’s Eve, I received a message from my bestie, Yoyo. “Hey, Ceci. There’s a countdown party right at the Mixc. Wanna go?” At first, I wasn’t that interested, but later, Yoyo sent me some social media posts, telling me how fun it would be. Then she called, “Let’s go and have fun. Jing will come too. We haven’t seen each other for so long!” Finally, I said yes.

On the day, we met up in my neighbourhood and then hailed a car. As the countdown party would be at midnight, I thought we had set off quite early, maybe 7 or 8 p.m. But by the time we arrived, the square had been teeming with people, all in gorgeous dresses and with cheerful smiles, jubilantly chit-chatting with their mates and taking selfies and snapshots. Yoyo, Jing and I were just like other partygoers, immersing ourselves in this festive atmosphere.
