Independent Writing

Many students starting university must choose a major (main field of study at university), and parents of these students often give them advice about which major to choose. Some parents tell students to choose the major that most interests the students. Other parents tell students that it is best to choose a major that will lead to a job with a high salary, even if that major may not be the one that most interests the students.

Which approach do you believe is better, and why?

破题

这次的考题非常长，这也是最近几年独立写作的一个出题趋势，核心内容可能不难，但就是越出越长，为的其实就是在审题的时候再多占用下考生的时间，变相提升了考试对速度的要求。

这道题其实和2016年11月5日的老题非常类似：

Students should choose the major such as science, technology, and engineering which can help them find good jobs instead of the major which they are interested in.

题目是很经典的教育类题目，二选一，是大学生在选专业时，是选择喜欢的专业、还是选择能带来高收入的专业。

头脑风暴

这道题大家应该都有很多想法，所以可以不用技巧，按照自己熟悉的，或者自己选专业时的想法去写就好。越贴合真实想法，例子也就越容易写出，且写得很细。

或者贴合平时练习过的例子解释等积累的话题，也很好。

以下只是抛砖引玉，给点思路：

一、喜欢的专业更好

① 兴趣是的老师，喜欢的专业才能一直钻研下去。

② 喜欢的专业不一定不能带来高收入。（行行出状元）

③ 喜欢的专业能遇到更多志同道合的朋友。

④ 高工资的专业，不一定永远都会高工资。（现在社会变化很快）

⑤ 高工资的专业，不一定人人都能有高工资。

二、高工资的专业更好

① 未来的生活基础有保障。

② 高工资的专业一般技术要求也高，能学到很多。

③ 高工资的专业一般能遇到很多厉害的人。

④ 兴趣是可以培养出来的。

⑤ 高工资的专业属于顺势而为，更有可能成功。

不能写的点：

① 高工资的专业也可能学生感兴趣。

这个点是因为题目明确说了，“Other parents tell students that it is best to choose a major that will lead to a job with a high salary, even if that major may not be the one that most interests the students.” 这里有限制说他们可能就是不感兴趣。所以就不要硬讲这个点了。

参考思路

立场：喜欢的专业

1. To begin with, interest is the best teacher, which means a major that students are interested in the most would motivate them to go further. This is because 学生很喜欢这门学科(be into this field of study)的话，那肯定会carefully do full preparations before class, curiously consult their mentors or teachers, actively overcome any barriers on the road. 这些都能保证他们在这个领域化的学到并应用知识(digest and apply knowledge), leading to a more likely success. For instance, 我在研究生的时候选择了转专业（transfer my major）到商科，就是因为我对商科非常感兴趣。在那期间（详细描述如何努力）…. By contrast, 本科的时候我对当时读的food science不感兴趣，即使大家都说营养师很有前途(very promising). Without putting enough attention to it and plus skipping class frequently, 我除了收获了充足的睡眠其他啥也没学到。

2. In addition, it is hard to predict which job can lead to a high-paying position after four or even more years. For one thing, 世界瞬息万变。Nowadays, as technology develops by leaps and bounds, which job comes with a high salary can never be easily predicted. For instance, 没有人在几年前知道现在的短视频行业会这么火；在互联网蓬发的几年前也很少有家长建议孩子去学编程。For another, 即使确切进入了高薪行业，但人能否拿高薪还是很难保证。For example, my friend Alex majored in finance, a lucrative industry. However, Alex自己因为不敢兴趣学得并不好，所以勉强进入公司也只是做着这个行业很初级的工作，比如整理数据文档等，instead of stock trading, etc. 自然，他也没有获得一个很好的收入。
